Deerwood is reminiscent of a simple peasant style dress... but one that has gone above and beyond to become something truly special.  The unique fully-fitted elastic bodice can be made by shirring or creating a series of elastic casings down the length of the bodice. The empire waist and tiered skirt make this a beautifully full and twirl-worthy dress, with the option of knee or maxi lengths.

Designed for woven fabrics with a size range of 2-12Y, this is an intermediate-level sew.

    I love this design

Posted by Sammie on 2021 Jun 25th

I love this design mainly because it’s a tiered dress that has tons of twirl yet not a fabric hog like many others. Shirring is also my absolute favorite sewing technique and far less complicated than it sounds. Heidi does an excellent job taking you through all the steps to be successful at shirring. It’s such a beautiful and classic design and a must for any little girl.

Deerwood is a Wildlife Management Area in southern Manitoba, Canada, named for the high number of Whitetail Deer that live year-round in the pockets of wooded areas scattered amongst the flat and gently rolling grasslands, prairie, and fields that dominate this ecoregion.

The landscape of southern Manitoba is one of wide views of the horizon and big open skies above, where storms can be seen coming from far in the distance.  As so much of southern Manitoba has been developed into farm land, areas such as Deerwood protect and maintain the biological integrity of native plants and animals.
