I'm happy you're here exploring, and I hope that you love what you see at Pollywoggles!  The patterns you discover here have been created for my children. Each design has been inspired by something they love or something they need.  Styles that work for my older son who is sensitive to how his clothes feel; for my daughter who loves playing with fabric as much as I do; for my youngest who needs clothes that can play as hard as he does.  When I'm not working on a design, you'll find me either trying to homeschool these three very different children... or hiding from my to-do list with my nose in a book.

I have a deep love of nature.  Having worked for over a decade as a natural heritage educator and in park land operations before I had my family, I've chosen names for my patterns that are the names of special rural or protected areas from all across Canada.  Some are places our family knows and loves, and others are places we can only dream of seeing in person some day.  Through my collection of Wildlife Appliques, I share with you my fascination with all the amazing creatures that we share this beautiful world with.  Though Pollywoggles is very small, it is important to me to be able to give back with every purchase of my patterns or appliques to one of two organizations who I believe do work that embraces true conservation and stewardship: Nature United whose work is here in Canada; and the International Conservation Fund of Canada, working in tropical regions around the world.  I hope you will take a little time to explore what what makes them unique in what they do.

The heavens proclaim the glory of God.  The skies display his craftmanship.
Psalm 19:1

Our family lives on a little slice of the Canadian Shield, surrounded by rocks and trees and a busy beaver pond in the traditional lands of the Algonquin-Anishinaabe First Nations, in the province of Ontario.  While out exploring one day, the kids and I discovered that the tadpoles were out!  Since we homeschool, this became a hands-on learning opportunity. Nodding in acceptance at being told that these weird swimming creatures with tails-but-no-legs would soon turn into frogs with legs-but-no-tails, my three year old announced that she really liked "pollywoggles".  When the time came to name my designs... this was what came to mind.

Every season brings changes to our family, and I feel so blessed to be able to explore ways of creating and designing for them.  As my children grow, so too will Pollywoggles.  I look forward to seeing where the seasons take us.
